Imagine No Malaria Wants You to "Cover the Net" for World Malaria Day

As World Malaria Day approaches on April 25, Imagine No Malaria is asking supporters to #CovertheNet to raise awareness across social media networks about this killer disease that claims the life of a child every 60 seconds.

Imagine No Malaria has created resources that make it easy for advocates to create social media buzz about this life-saving cause. Here’s how you can join the effort to help us #CovertheNet:

  • Add a special World Malaria Day Twibbon to your Twitter and/or Facebook profile photos to spread the world and let people know you support the cause. (Get your Twibbon)
  • Help us shout out a powerful message on Twitter and Facebook via Thunderclap. If enough people sign up to support it, Thunderclap will blast out a timed Facebook post or tweet from Imagine No Malaria supporters on April 25 – all at the same time – creating a giant wave of attention. (Join our Thunderclap)
  • Change your Facebook cover image using the one we have posted on our Facebook page at Like our page and check back during the week leading up to World Malaria Day for shareable videos and photo posts.
  • #CovertheNet with prayers for those at risk of death from malaria by posting a prayer on our Facebook wall on or leading up to April 25.

Imagine No Malaria is an extraordinary ministry of the people of The United Methodist Church that is dedicated to eliminating deaths from malaria in Africa through prevention, treatment, education and communication. Through generous support, this goal has never been closer in reach. Malaria’s death rate is half of what it was in 2006; however, there is more work to be done as this preventable disease still claims a life every 60 seconds.

To learn more, follow Imagine No Malaria on Facebook, go to Twibbon, or join the conversation online using the hashtag #CoverTheNet.

The 2013 North Alabama Annual Conference set a goal to save 100,000 lives by raising $1 million for Imagine No Malaria. This is part of the worldwide United Methodist Church’s effort of raising $75 million by 2015. Over the last year, many of North Alabama congregations have engaged in supporting this ministry of saving lives. On Sunday evening, June 1, 2014, during the Opening Celebration worship service of the 2014 North Alabama Annual Conference, the Imagine No Malaria Special Offering will be received. Local congregations are invited to send their contribution to this ministry with their Annual Conference member.
