Message from Bishop Wallace-Padgett: An invitation to read through the Bible in a year

11/8/2018

Dear Friends,

I had been a Christ-follower for decades before I first read through the Bible in a year. Though previously I had read significant portions of Scripture, I had not intentionally journeyed from Genesis 1 through Revelation 22 in a 365 day period. When a dear friend told me he had read through the Bible every year since his teens, I was inspired to follow suit.

Adopting this practice as an ongoing part of my walk with God has changed my life. Why? Reading Scripture gives new insight about God and humanity. Reading and studying Scripture increases knowledge of the context and application of biblical passages. Most importantly, the practice of daily Scripture reading leads to deepened experiences with God.

I invite you to join other North Alabama Conference United Methodists leaders and me in reading through the Bible in 2019. The Adult Discipleship Team is developing materials and encouragement for those who choose to participate in this venture. In addition to the schedule, blog posts and podcasts will be provided of various North Alabama clergy and laity reflecting on the daily readings.

The Discipleship Team would like to have you register your commitment to be a part of Reading Through the Bible in 2019. Upon registration, helpful materials will be provided. Click here to submit your name.

Thanks for considering this invitation to read through the Bible together in 2019. As always, it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Blessings,
Debra Wallace-Padgett
Resident Bishop
