What a wonderful beginning we celebrated together

Dear Friends of the North Alabama Conference,

What a wonderful beginning we celebrated together this past Sunday evening at Canterbury UMC as we launched a new chapter in our history. Many individuals and groups worked together to make Sunday’s service a beautiful occasion.

A special thanks to:

  • Rev. Dr. Bill Morgan, Rev. Warren Nash and the Canterbury United Methodist Church and Staff who hosted us with much grace and hospitality;
  • Rev. Mikah Hudson and the team he led in planning and coordinating the service;
  • Our Ecumenical Guests and United Methodist College Representatives from across the city and state;
  • Dr. Lester Seigel, Dr. James Cook and the combined Canterbury, Highlands and Birmingham First UMC choirs for their outstanding music;
  • Bishop Robert Morgan, Bishop Al Gwinn, Bishop Robert Spain and Bishop Lloyd Knox for their participation in the celebration;
  • Various Liturgists who led us so well;
  • The Clergy who filled the balcony as a symbol of their servant leadership in this Annual Conference;
  • The Laity who serve faithfully in every corner of North Alabama; and
  • The District Superintendents and District Lay Leaders who served Holy Communion and lead our Annual Conference in a multitude of ways.

Please join me in praying that in coming months and years we will build upon Sunday’s beginning as we continue to grow into the individuals, churches and conference that God has called us to be. It is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett
