Annual Conference 2013

1 Corinthians 3:7-9:

So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything,
But only God gives the Growth.
The one who plants and the one who waters have a common purpose,
But only God gives the growth.
Each will receive wages according to the labor of each,
But only God gives the growth.
We are God’s servants, working together; God’s field, God’s building;
Hallelujah God gives the growth!!

Next month will be Annual Conference at Birmingham-Southern College for the second year in modern time. We will gather June 2-4,2013.

Plans have been underway for many months to have the best Conference ever. The Conference is expanded by a half day with the opening being on Sunday afternoon and lasting until the close of day on Tuesday with the fixing of Appointments.

Members of Annual Conference from local churches should be receiving their PreConference Journal and registration information in the mail.

Please attend the PreConference meeting in your District during May. The dates of the District PreConference Meetings are listed on the Conference website ( in the Calendar section.

You do not have to be an elected member of the Annual Conference to attend the Annual Conference or the PreConference meetings.

You will have to make reservations online this year to reserve meal tickets or childcare. When you do, please register for the Laity Luncheon to be held at noon of June 3 in the Great Hall in the Norton Center on the campus of Birmingham-Southern. There will be a limited number of tickets for the Laity Luncheon, and there will be no tickets available at the door. All tickets are advance reservations and a limited number will be sold.

Highlighting this year’s Laity Luncheon will be music by Rev. Keith Elder and an address by Dr. Cam West, President of Huntingdon College.

This is a very special year as this is Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett’s first year as Bishop of North Alabama. She has planned some new ideas for Conference especially in worship. Four distinct services will be held during Conference, highlighted by a Closing service to send Clergy and Lay out linked together in Ministry for God and the next year.
