Churches Respond to “Reaching New People” Workshop

“Reaching New People for Christ” is a workshop sponsored by Ethnic Ministries to help individuals and churches invite, follow up and embrace visitors, especially nominal Christians and non-church attenders. The first two in a series of workshops planned for the fall took place at Lakeside UMC on September 21st and Sweet Home UMC on September 28th. Both churches were wonderful hosts. Presenter is Dr. Richard Stryker, Ethnic Ministries Executive Director.

Members of churches in the Huntsville area and churches in the Gadsden and Anniston areas participated in the workshop. Reviews stated that participants found the resources helpful and practical. With an average attendance of 27, some participants commented on the need for even more people to hear the information. Saturday morning is a valuable time but participants overall found it a good use of their time.

The next two workshops will be held at St. James UMC – Irondale on October 19th and Powell Chapel in Lafayette on November 16th. Stryker notes, “We are hoping for churches in the area to respond to this opportunity.” Registration is $5.00 per person and pre-registration is required.
