Every Christian is called to be a follower. Indeed Christian disciples are continually growing in our capacity to follow Jesus.
Though God is the One who empowers us to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ, we have an important part to play in the process. Practices that result in our spending regular quality time with God make a huge difference in our development as disciples. Since discipleship is not a solo venture, it is essential that we practice holy habits both as individuals and in community.
The Adult Discipleship Team is offering two tools to assist North Alabama United Methodists in structuring regular prayer and Bible reading practices in 2020. As we practice these timeless spiritual disciplines as an Annual Conference, we grow in our discipleship and also our sense of connection with one another.
Read Together Initiative
Are you interested in developing or continuing a habit of reading through the entire Bible each year? Are you ready to delve more intentionally into the writings that are foundational for Christian theology and faith? Do you desire to be transformed by the Triune God whom you meet in Holy Scriptures?
If you answer yes to one or more of these questions, then “Read Together 2020” is for you. Note that in 2020 we will use a reading schedule which will incorporate Old and New Testament passages into the daily reading lists. You may register for Read Together 2020 at www.umcna.org/ReadTogether.
Pray Together Initiative
Would you like to expand your understanding of prayer as a way of life? Is your prayer life stagnant? Do you sense that God is calling you to grow in your prayer life? Do you long for your church to be known for its prayer ministry?
The Pray Together Initiative will offer weekly podcasts or videos with inspiring stories and prayer practices to deepen our prayer lives. Participants will also be offered a weekly one-sheet download for anyone who feels led to add that week's practice/focus to their daily prayer experience. Register for “Pray Together 2020” at www.umcna.org/PrayTogether.

You are invited to join me and many others in North Alabama Methodism as we read and pray together in 2020. In the process, we will continue to grow as Christ-followers and in our connection with one another.
As always it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.
