Silent Retreats rescheduled

Due to the continued restrictions associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Spring Silent Retreat has been postponed until September. We are happy to tentatively offer two Fall retreats in 2021.

The late Claude Whitehead, UMC pastor, counselor and spiritual director, began the Silent Retreats in 1988 at Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman. These retreats continue today following the format he created. The theme of the 2021 retreats is “Thirst For God.” A retreat guide is available, if needed, and community worship times are built into the schedule. The peaceful environment and beautiful grounds provide a contemplative atmosphere that encourages one to slow down the frantic pace of life today and spend time alone with God. In addition, the Benedictine Sisters welcome retreatants to join the monastic community for Lauds and Vespers as they beautifully live out St. Benedict’s advice to “welcome the stranger as Christ.”

Clergy attending the Silent Retreat will receive 2.5 CEUs upon request.

Participants should bring a Bible and pen, personal grooming items and comfortable clothing. Housing is in private rooms in Benet Hall with bed and bath linens provided. Space is limited so rooms are reserved in order of deposits received. If you have questions about the retreat weekend, please contact Deanna Shotts or Rev. Susie Knedlik.

Cost is $195, which includes meals and accommodations. A deposit of $95 will reserve space for the retreat. Limited scholarship funds are available. Click here to register online.
