The Office of Connectional Ministries is excited to announce the availability of an updated Safe Sanctuaries (child protection) Train-the-Trainer program based on the recently revised Conference Safe Sanctuaries policy. The updated Train-the-Trainer program is being made available in a new, entirely online format.
“We are excited about the updated Train-the-Trainer format that, we believe, will make training more accessible and useful to those who wish to be certified as Safe Sanctuaries trainers,” says Rev. John Fleischauer, Associate Director of Connectional Ministries and Conference Safe Sanctuaries Coordinator.
The new training format utilizes the Conference’s online learning platform to offer Train-the-Trainer program over the course of 5 to 6 weeks. During that time participants will not only learn more about the details of Safe Sanctuaries, but will gain hands-on experience writing policies and leading trainings. Once certified, Safe Sanctuaries trainers serve within their district to guide churches in developing Safe Sanctuaries policies and leading trainings for staff and volunteers who work with minors.
“This new format will allow participants to gain new insights into Safe Sanctuaries, while not having to commit to a full day of in-person training,” says Rev. Fleischauer. He adds, “We also hope that this new model for training will help participants connect with one another so that they have a network of support as they begin serving in their districts.”
Anyone wishing to be certified as a trainer is invited to apply for approval by their district at this link. Train-the-Trainer sessions will be offered 3-4 times per year, with the next one beginning in mid-September.
