North Alabama Annual Conference now scheduled for June 22-24, 2022

September 27, 2021

At the close of the 2021 North Alabama Conference, it was announced that the 2022 Annual Conference was scheduled to be at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville on June 19-21. However, two weeks later the United States declared a new federal holiday — Juneteenth. This new holiday sets June 19 as the national day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

In recognition of this new holiday, Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett, in consultation with the Annual Conference Planning Team and the Conference Leadership Team, has rescheduled the 2022 North Alabama Annual Conference for June 22-24.

Bishop Wallace-Padgett says, “One of our current Conference and denominational focuses is Dismantling Racism. The Conference Leadership Team, Multicultural Ministries Team and I have invited all North Alabama United Methodists to join us on a journey to address racism in our communities in ongoing and meaningful ways such as increasing our awareness, building interracial relationships and developing a lifelong commitment to racial justice. Moving our 2022 Annual Conference so that congregations and individuals may recognize the new Juneteenth federal holiday is an appropriate step on this journey."

She adds, “We continue to pray that our efforts to mitigate the COVID-19 virus will allow us to safely meet together in person in Huntsville next June for our Annual Conference. I look forward to once again being able to gather with United Methodists from across North Alabama to worship and conduct our business in-person.”

The schedule and details for the 2022 Annual Conference will be announced in early 2022.
