Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church members hosted a Special Needs Splash Pad party Saturday on June 28, 2014, at the John Mark Stallings Special Needs Accessible Playground (SNAP) in Hartselle.

More than 65 people attended the event – about 25 of whom were children with special needs and their families. The children played in the Splash Pad and on the playground equipment built for children with special needs. Volunteers from the church played with the children, served refreshments and handed out sidewalk chalk, beach balls, and bubbles.

The two-hour event was the brain-child of the church’s Missions Coordinator, Selena Lindsey. The SNAP project manager, Bob Francis, said that this was the first time any organization had hosted such an event for Hartselle-area special needs children.

Church members are already planning a similar event for next summer.
