What's Your Name?

The easiest conversation starter in the world creates an effective premise for Jessica LaGrone's Namesake. The six-week study focuses on biblical characters whose lives and names were forever changed by an encounter with God. The study is theologically sound, highly relational and encourages great class interaction.

I loved getting to know the ladies in my study group at Forest Lake UMC in Tuscaloosa as we worked through Namesake. Discovering the origins of my classmates' names helped me to understand them better as individuals. While we studied Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Naomi, Daniel, Peter and the unnamed woman, we also were encouraged to discover our identity and purpose for which we were created by a God who loves us intensely. The participant book features five daily readings per week, and while not being overwhelming, effectively prepared us for participation in the video-based class.

Jessica LaGrone is Dean of the Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary, and her video sessions of Namesake are informative, thought-provoking and entertaining. She relates the deep truths of Scripture as easily and well as she shares experiences from her own life and family.

The Namesake DVD is available from the North Alabama Conference Resource Library. Please email Mary Simpson at msimpson@umcna.org for details.
