2017 Annual Conference Special Offering resources available for local congregations

April 27, 2017

Each year the North Alabama Annual Conference receives a special mission offering during the Annual Conference meeting.  This year’s offering has been designated for Ministry with the Poor.
Ministry with the Poor is one of the four North Alabama Conference priorities. The Operational Team leading this priority has developed Exploration, an intensive summer internship for people who are discerning a call to Ministry with the Poor. The goal is to develop trained ministers and laity passionate about ongoing ministry with the poor who are willing to lead this Conference priority in the life of our local churches.
This year’s Annual Conference special offering is being used to help fund this new initiative and other work designed to discover, develop and deploy spiritual leaders in the Conference priority area of Ministry with the Poor.
Each North Alabama congregation is asked to support this year’s offering by giving $1 per person. Local congregations are invited to send their contributions with their Annual Conference member. The offering will be received on Sunday afternoon, June 4 during Opening Worship.
To help congregations invite church members to be a part of this meaningful ministry opportunity, a toolkit has been developed with downloadable resources. You can find the toolkit at www.umcna.org/ac17specialoffering.

About Ministry with the Poor Exploration

Exploration participants will live in community, pray, read Scripture together and participate in two spiritual formation and learning retreats. They will have the opportunity to become certified Christian Community Development (CCD) participants through a week-long CCDA Immersion. Exploration interns will serve in one of our North Alabama churches or agencies in direct ministry with the poor.
