The North Alabama Conference and the Alabama-West Florida Conference are jointly sponsoring the 2nd Alabama Methodist Lawyers’ Forum on March 28, 2019, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Forum will be held at First United Methodist Church in Montgomery. A free continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
This event is a “win-win” for the lawyers in your churches. The lawyers get 6 FREE hours of CLE credit (1/2 the annual requirement), including the required one hour for Ethics CLE. They also will learn about many subjects that will help them better serve you and your congregations.
As the agenda indicates, the Forum is chocked full of important – and timely – topics. For example, Bill Waddell, general counsel to the Council of Bishops, and Andy Hendren, from the UMC General Board of Pensions and Health Benefits, will both be present, in person, to discuss the results and aftermath of last month’s Special General Conference. Employment law, church security and safe sanctuaries will also be discussed, as well as the church’s response to the #Me Too movement. The day will culminate with a communion service led by North Alabama's Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett and Alabama-West Florid's Bishop David Graves.
If you think any of the topics may be helpful for non-lawyers in your churches (e.g., treasurers or trustees), the Forum is open to those persons too. As noted there is no charge.
Anyone who wishes to register may do so by contacting Suzanne Krejcar, the Treasurer and Director of Administration for the Alabama West Florida Conference, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Since the event is just over two weeks away, please ask potential registrants to do so quickly – preferably by this Friday, March 15 - so planning for lunches and seating can be finalized.
If you have any questions, please contact Terry McElheny at (205) 226-7951 or at email@example.com.
