Cokesbury chooses generosity over commercialism

11/25/2014

The holidays are quickly approaching and it’s impossible to avoid the clamor of ads promoting Brown Thursday, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday deals. In a retail environment where time with family and friends is almost discouraged, online retailer Cokesbury.com is taking a stand to promote time with loved ones while offering an opportunity to help others at the same time.

Instead of slashing prices, Cokesbury.com will be contributing 10% of all sales made through the website on December 2nd to charity as a part of the third annual #GivingTuesday global outreach initiative; while maintaining its everyday competitive pricing of 20-35% off most items. Charitable donations will benefit the Christmas Room at Red Bird Mission, a ministry and services provider to the isolated and economically depressed area of Appalachia, and the UMCOR International Response to Ebola efforts to ease human suffering and stop the spread of the deadly disease.

#GivingTuesday is an international call to action to encourage impactful giving during the holiday season. It focuses the energy of people all over the world to work together for good and push back at commercialism and consumerism. #GivingTuesday unifies charities, corporations, small business, and individuals from across the globe to show that the world gives as good as it gets.

Cokesbury.com has begun introducing the concept of #GivingTuesday to their customers using social media platforms and via word-of-mouth campaigns.

“We are proud to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas by focusing on the missional aspect of the Cokesbury brand. By our customers choosing to shop with us on December 2nd they’ll be able to help families in need and play a role in the fight against Ebola on the ground in Africa,” said Cokesbury’s eMarketing Manager Jennifer Peters. “Christmas is about giving and helping others, and we are going to lead by example to share that important message.”
