"Helping all people experience and claim their own deep worth as a beloved child of our Loving Creator is a deep passion of mine. It has been a tremendous privilege over the this past year to do this work of elevating women's equality side by side with the North Alabama COSROW team!",” said Rev. Stephanie Arnold, who was the speaker for the 2016 North Alabama Annual Conference Breakfast sponsored by the Commission on the Status and Role of Women (COSROW). Her talk included the stories of clergy and lay women who had encountered discrimination or gender bias.
The Conference COSROW Team was looking for way to share these stories with a broader audience. The result has been the production of the video #HerTruth: Women in Ministry Break Their Silence which reworks the material Rev. Arnold presented at the COSROW Breakfast including a reading of women’s experiences by men.
“We hope that this video can be a conversation starter to engage people in discussing the ways in which we consciously and consciously discriminate against women,” said Rev. Rachel Radeline Gonia, COSROW Chair. “We want to be a source of support for all persons who have experienced gender bias. COSROW is committed to the full inclusion of women in the total life of the United Methodist Church.”
The COSROW Team is charged with raising awareness of gender bias and discrimination as well as outright harassment and abuse. This video is one way they are working at meeting that goal.
The video will be available beginning November 10 at the conference website. Discussion guides are available at the website as well. To view the video and discussion guides go to www.umcna.org/COSROW and click the #HerTruth link.
