North Alabama Conference Historical Society meeting to focus on civil rights

The North Alabama Conference Historical Society Spring meeting will be at Birmingham First United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall on Saturday, March 7, 2015.
 
Rev. Spenser Turnipseed will present a paper on his sister, Marti Turnipseed, who, as a student at Birmingham-Southern College, participated in “sit ins” causing the college to consider its position on Civil Rights.
 
A second paper by Dr. Jim Baggett will give a brief comprehensive overview of the Civil Rights struggle in Birmingham and the church’s place in it.
 
The history of Birmingham First UMC will also be presented.
 
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the program starting at 9:30 a.m. The program will conclude with lunch. Everyone is invited to attend. Those staying for lunch should make reservations before March 1.
