Message from Bishop Wallace-Padgett: A Mission-driven Annual Conference

Dear Friends,

My earliest memories of Annual Conference are as a child when I attended with my parents and older brother.  The worship, atmosphere and new friends inspired me.

Then there were the 31 years of Annual Conference that I experienced while in ministry in Kentucky.  The only one I missed during that period was in 1986 when my husband Lee and I were out of town for his mother’s funeral.

As you can probably tell, I have always had a deep appreciation for Annual Conference.  But never have I been as excited about an upcoming Annual Conference as I am this year.  Indeed, I am energized by our plans for a mission-driven Annual Conference.

What is a mission-driven Annual Conference?  It is an Annual Conference that:

  • keeps our vision center stage in what we do throughout the experience;
  • is designed around our mission of discovering, developing and deploying spiritual leaders to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world;
  • celebrates how God is moving in our churches and individual lives;
  • sends participants back to their ministry contexts with deepened spiritual leadership capacities that come from an encounter with God.

I anticipate that this year’s Annual Conference will be extraordinary.  More details will be forthcoming soon.  In the meantime, I am looking forward to seeing you May 31- June 2 at Birmingham-Southern College for North Alabama’s mission-driven Annual Conference.

As always it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Debra Wallace-Padgett
Resident Bishop
North Alabama Conference
