Oxford First UMC announces it’s first-ever "Chip in Fore the Children" golf tournament to be held on Nov. 17, 2017, at Anniston’s Pine Hill Country Club. The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for staffing and programming children’s ministries at Oxford First.
“The idea came about when we needed to raise money to hire a minister to children and fund children’s ministries but couldn’t fit it into budget,” Pastor David Allison said. “With this tournament we should be able to fund, in advance, the salary and curriculum resources for a new minister to children for a year. This will enable us to reach more families with the programming to children they need.”
Players will compete for first, second, and third place awards, as well as longest drive and closest to the hole prizes. Sunny King Honda will award a 2018 Honda Accord LX to the first person to make a hole-in-one at one of four par three holes. Other hole-in-one prizes offered by Sunny King include a set of Callaway irons, round-trip domestic airfare for two, and a Sharp LCD flat screen television.
The church currently is inviting sponsors to support the fundraiser with several levels of participation. Sponsors will be mentioned in social media and publicity about the tournament.
Sarah Thompson, minister to students at Oxford First UMC, is leading the project. An avid golfer, Sarah has led or assisted in several charity golf tournaments. For more information contact Sarah at firstname.lastname@example.org.
