Message from Bishop Wallace-Padgett: “Lord, Teach Us to Pray:  Prayerful Living in a Broken World”

11/13/2017

Dear Friends,

It is mind-boggling to be able to communicate with the God of the Universe as frequently as we desire. Yet, prayer provides us this avenue.

Communication with God is only the beginning of what happens when we pray, too. Time spent in prayer changes us in profound and life-changing ways.

No wonder the first disciples said, “Lord, teach us to pray.” Though they had been raised in the Jewish faith and thus knew how to pray, as they observed Jesus’ prayer life they realized that they had much to learn about praying.

The team planning The North Alabama Conference Bishops' Day of Prayer recognizes that we, too, have much to learn about prayer, especially in this broken world in which we live. This is why on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. all laity and clergy of the North Alabama Conference are invited to join Bishop Young Jin Cho and me at Clearbranch United Methodist Church for a day of prayer centered on the theme, “Lord Teach us to Prayer: Prayerful living in a broken world.” Throughout the day, participants will explore, learn and practice various styles of prayer.

In addition to plenary sessions and worship, participants may choose two experiential prayer workshops. Indoor and outdoor prayer stations including labyrinths will be available throughout the day, which will conclude with Holy Communion.

The registration fee of $30 includes breakfast bakery items and lunch. For information and registration go to www.umcna.org/bishopsdayofprayer. Registration will open on December 1, 2017.

Although our world, country and denomination show signs of brokenness, we believe that God is able to draw us together and to help us grow deeper as a church. Our hope is to gather the people of the North Alabama Conference to pray and to seek God’s heart so that we may better serve our hurting world.

As always it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Blessings,
Debra Wallace-Padgett
Resident Bishop
North Alabama Conference
