Bazillion Book Celebration scheduled for November 6

October 24, 2016

The Bazillion Book Drive, an initiative of the Ministry with the Poor Team, has provided books to children in every District of the North Alabama Conference. Book parties, warehouse giveaways and other events have been utilized to distribute books all over North Alabama.
The Bazillion Book Drive continues to gain momentum as relationships are established between local churches and organizations dedicated to childhood literacy. The South Central District is planning a huge celebration of the bazillion books already in the hands of children living in poverty. The event is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on November 6 at Railroad Park in Birmingham. Included in plans for the day are hot dogs and lemonade, activities for children, popcorn and cookies, storytelling and music. Organizations benefitting from the book drive will set up booths in the plaza area of Railroad Park to spread the word about their work.
A secondary purpose of the celebration is to distribute even more books. Every child attending the event will choose a new book to take home. Amelia Bedelia, a favorite character from a children's book series, will be there to help children make a book selection. There will also be an opportunity for children to donate their book selections to agencies who serve under resourced children, because every child deserves a new book.

The Bazillion Book Celebration is also intended to kick off the North Alabama Conference’s collection of the second bazillion books. Organizations within the Conference are still requesting books, and the requests are still being sent to the District Offices to find connection with local churches. Check with your District Office to be updated on needs in your area or make sure you attend the celebration and connect firsthand with an agency to be in ministry with the poor.
