Each year at Annual Conference, the North Alabama Conference Commission on Archives and History presents the Wheeler Award for Church History and Archives and also recognizes certain historic churches with the Charter Church Award. Below is information about each award. This year's deadline for applications is April 1, 2018.
The award was established in 2011 to recognize and thank Glynn and Annie Ford Wheeler for their years of service and accomplishments in the area of Church History. Their work included local church, conference and the jurisdiction. Each Annual Conference, the award is presented to a person or persons in our conference who have made outstanding contributions to the preservation and promotion of Church History.

The nomination deadline for the 2018 Award is April 1.
The Conference Commission on Archives and History recognizes certain historic churches with the Charter Church Award.
A Charter Church is one that is currently active in the North Alabama Conference and is older than the Conference itself. The Conference was organized on November 16, 1870.
No fee is charged but each Charter Church must apply in writing. The application would consist of a cover letter clearly stating the name of the church, its mailing address, phone number, email address (if any), and the name of the district in which the church is located. The cover letter should be signed by the Church Historian and current minister.
Attached to the cover letter should be a brief history (approximately 300 to 600 words. Insofar as is possible, the history should include the founding date, notable church leaders, and significant events and major changes that have occurred during the life of the church. If a history has already been written that includes this information than that history should be submitted with the cover letter. The brief history should establish beyond any doubt that the organization of the church occurred before the organization of the North Alabama Conference.
The application should be prepared by the Church Historian or by the History Committee of the local church. If the church does not have a historian, one may be appointed for this purpose.

Churches to receive an award will be notified by May 1 and given the award at the annual conference in June.
