May 27, 2016

To show appreciation for National Police Week, the Cottondale United Methodist congregation had a pizza party and took on the challenge of packing some very special appreciation bags on Saturday, May 7, 2016.&

Each bag was lovingly and prayerfully packed with a Mountain Dew, a bag of chips, cookies, candy and, of course, doughnuts.

They packed a total of 670 bags — enough for each uniformed officer in the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Office,Tuscaloosa County Jail, Northport Police Department, State Troopers, University of Alabama Police Department and the Coaling, Vance, Brookwood, Lakeview and Woodstock Police Departments to each get a special treat and a note of appreciation.

There were plenty of smiles and quite a few shocked faces when church members delivered their treats to each departments.

Rev. Mike Holland, pastor of Andrew's Chapel UMC and Cottondale UMC explains, “This was just one of many ways to show the community’s love and appreciation to the men and women who protect and serve us everyday. Each bag also had a note from local Cottondale community school children who also wanted to say thank you.”
