Disaster Response & Recovery Update: The Bahamas Project

January 07, 2020

Hopefully with a New Year one of your desires is to be more like Jesus by helping others. We are now in Crunch Time for the Bahamas Project. Thanks to some hard work by others behind the scenes, we have managed to find a supplier who can provide AND SHIP the lumber, sheetrock, and hardy board from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Due to restrictions on these types of products, Home Depot in Ft. Lauderdale has the materials that will pass inspection once in Freeport.

This means we need the funds to purchase these materials. For those of you who have already donated, we thank you and the people of Freeport will be blessed. We're asking you to ask your Sunday School Classes, Small Groups, Children and Youth Ministries, and your family and friends to help us. We need to raise a little over $100,000 to handle this expense. In 2011 our conference was the recipient of nearly 30 times that amount. I am confident you will respond in like manner to our sisters and brothers in the Bahamas. You may send your donations to the Conference Center in Birmingham; earmark your donations for Bahamas.

Below is the list of supplies we have received and a list of other supplies not included in the Home Depot list. We need these items at the Warehouse in Decatur as soon as possible. And the Warehouse will be needing volunteers to pack the shipping container there as well. You can contact the Warehouse directly at 256-341-9961 to volunteer your time and to arrange a drop-off of these supplies.

I close this update with a reminder from Matthew 25:37-40:

Then these righteous ones will reply, "Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?" And the King will say, "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!"

Now is the time, and Jesus is looking to us to reveal His presence, for such a time as this!
