Disaster Response Update: Five ways you can help Louisana

Many people have asked how they can help the survivors of the recent flooding in Louisiana. Below are five ways you can help:

  1. Continue to pray for the survivors and those assisting them.

  2. Volunteer to assist in the relief and/or recovery efforts.
The Louisiana Annual Conference has extended the invitation for Early Response Team Volunteers. Please follow these directions.
    • Go to the Louisiana Annual Conference Volunteer Registration website at www.surveymonkey.com/r/UMCVolunteerRegistration
    • Provide the requested information.
    • Please do NOT travel to the affected area without first registering and receiving confirmation from the Louisiana Conference Disaster Response office.
  3. Give financially for the Recovery Effort and for the Long Term Recovery.
You can give directly to the Louisiana Annual Conference at https://louisiana-reg.brtapp.com/DonatetoAssistDisasterReliefEfforts or you may contribute to UMCOR’s US Disaster Response, Advance #901670.

Donations to UMCOR may be sent either directly to UMCOR at https://secure3.convio.net/gbgm/site/SPageNavigator/umcor_donate.html?type=1002&project=901670 or to North Alabama Annual Conference 898 Arkadelphia Rd., Birmingham, AL 35204 (indicate check is for UMCOR Advance Special 90167). Remember that through the Advance 100% of your donation goes to the project with 0% used for administrative costs of UMCOR.

  4. Help replenish the Cleaning Bucket inventory.
Both the recent floods as well as wildfires have depleted the UMCOR warehouse system down to reserve numbers. Information for the Cleaning Buckets can be found at www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies/Relief-Supply-Kits/Cleaning

There is a limited supply of empty buckets and lids at the Disaster Warehouse located at 3220 Hwy 31 South, Building F, Decatur, AL 35603. Due to limited staffing we cannot deliver these empty buckets. To arrange pick-up of the empty buckets call (256) 341-9961. Once you have filled the buckets call the Warehouse at (256) 341-9961 to arrange delivery of finished buckets. Again, due to staffing limitations we cannot come and pick up your buckets.

  5. Volunteer at the Disaster Response Warehouse in Decatur (3220 Hwy 31 South, Building F, Decatur, AL 35603). We are always looking for volunteers and teams to assist in operations there. You can call (256) 341-9961 to schedule a time to help. Visit the Warehouse website at www.umdisasterwarehouse.com.
