Duncanville UMC launches “Taking the Church to You” initiative
In January of 2018, Duncanville UMC (Southwest District) launched a new ministry initiative called “Taking the Church to You,” in an effort to serve members of their church family who cannot join the congregation for Sunday morning worship.
Factors like sickness, injury, work obligations, and other circumstances outside of a person's control may keep members from being physically present on Sundays. However, Duncanville UMC believes that when a member of their church family cannot come to church, then the church should come to them.
As a part of this initiative, a newsletter titled, The Duncanville Post, was created, sermons are provided in both CD and MP3 formats, and quarterly visitations are scheduled to serve the sacrament of Holy Communion. The Duncanville UMC family physically delivers these items to the nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and households of members who cannot come to the church.
In the same spirit with which the Philippians ministered to the Apostle Paul, Duncanville UMC has taken to heart the Gospel imperative to bring the church to their family, when their family cannot come to the church building.
