Fair Haven recruits business leader with ministerial background as the faith-based nonprofit’s expansion nears completion.
On June 26, 2017, Methodist Homes of Alabama & Northwest Florida announced the hire of Daniel H. March, a licensed nursing home administrator and former minister, as the new Executive Director of Fair Haven, its oldest and largest retirement community located on Montclair Road in Birmingham. The leadership change comes as Fair Haven is just three months away from the completion of a massive $42 million campus-wide redevelopment.
Dan March earned a BA in Religion from Millikin University, a Master of Divinity from Lexington Theological Seminary, and went to work in pastoral ministry. After 16 years in pastoral care in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Dan returned to school at Kansas State University to earn an MS in hospitality management, and a few years later returned to Wichita State University for an MBA.
“My work as a long-term care administrator is every bit as much a ministry as what I did in the church for the first half of my professional life,” Dan offered. “What we do in senior care is we support residents and families on the toughest days of their lives. We serve, support, and protect some of the most dependent and frail members of society, so what we do is a ministry, a labor of love, and one of the highest callings.”
Dan most recently led a large, progressive Presbyterian campus in Pittsburgh, working closely with a post-acute rehabilitation program. Dan takes the reigns at Fair Haven beginning Monday, June 26, and looks forward to getting back into working with a whole spectrum of care levels offered at the faith-based nonprofit retirement community.
“I've been blessed to be able to lead several communities and lead teams in changing the culture of nursing homes to embrace a more person-centered approach to care, so I bring that experience and passion to Fair Haven,” said Dan. “I am excited about the opportunity of collaborating with the doctors, dentists, and gerontologists of UAB to provide cutting edge services to the residents of Fair Haven.”
, a Methodist Homes of Alabama & Northwest Florida retirement community, is located in Birmingham, Alabama, and offers seniors a full spectrum of housing and care options, including 259 nursing beds, making it the largest nursing home in Birmingham. Several partnerships with UAB provide for a medical director, an on-site medical clinic, and an on-site dental clinic at Fair Haven.
