On Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, the Gaither Homecoming Christmas Spectacular will be at the Legacy Arena of the BJCC (Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex). The evening, hosted by Bill Gaither, will feature the Gaither Vocal Band and other well-loved gospel artists. The evening will also benefit a North Alabama Conference Advance Special – Urban Ministry.
Urban Ministry, founded in 1976, serves the West End neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. Its mission is to serve poor and low-income persons with programs of compassion and wholeness. Compassion programs address immediate human needs, while wholeness programs address long-term human needs. Ministries include the Community Cafe, the Joe Rush Center for Urban Mission, Urban Kids, WE Community Gardens, Beeson Senior Services, food assistance, homelessness prevention, transportation ministry, and the Church Without Walls.
During the concert, Urban Ministry will have an opportunity to tell their story to the 5,000 in attendance. Bill Gaither, who has generously supported Urban Ministry in the past, has offered to make a direct appeal to the audience on Urban Ministry’s behalf. The Urban Ministry Board of Directors has set a goal for the Urban Ministry Gaither Homecoming Christmas Challenge of raising $100,000.
