Lesters Chapel United Methodist Church will celebrate its 200th Anniversary of ministry with their Homecoming on Sunday, August 12th at 10:30 a.m. Lesters Chapel, located in Columbiana, is in the South Central District.
Methodist services on Yellow Leaf Creek began about 1818 when itinerant Methodist circuit riders, including the well-known preacher Ebenezer Hearn, stopped off from their travels through the Mississippi Territory and preached in the log cabins of the settlers or out in the open by the light of pine knot torches. These early inhabitants of Shelby County were soon joined by many other families, one of which was the Lesters. Shortly after his family’s arrival in 1837, Alfred Musgrove Lester donated the land, and soon Lesters Chapel Methodist Church was built.
Lesters Chapel’s Homecoming Celebration will feature sharing precious memories, singing favorite hymns, sharing a covered-dish meal, viewing historical exhibits, and visiting old and newer friends. Lesters Chapel has a rich history of sharing Christ’s love in the Chelsea and Columbiana communities, and members feel blessed for God’s faithfulness in their memorable past and promising future.
