Message from Bishop Wallace-Padgett: March 11, 2018 is UMCOR Sunday

Dear Friends,

Humanity from all walks of life and regions of the world often rally together when crisis strikes. The North Alabama Conference has been firsthand beneficiaries of such generosity as recently as the 2011 Alabama storms and tornadoes.

We have an annual opportunity to give to others who have experienced crisis through United Methodist Committee On Relief offerings that occur each Spring as well as when a national or international disaster occurs. Churches are encouraged to receive an offering on UMCOR Sunday (March 11, 2018), formerly known as One Great Hour of Sharing. Or text “umcorsunday” to 91999 and give from your cellphone.  See details at United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Monies given on UMCOR Sunday help to cover UMCOR communication and administrative costs. This allows 100 percent of UMCOR donations received in response to a particular crisis to go directly to the affected area.

UMCOR’s reputation for good stewardship of monies received inspires those beyond United Methodist circles to utilize it as a tool for good. See a recent news story featuring Mountain Brook businesses raising more than $17,000 to donate to UMCOR for hurricane relief in Texas.

Thanks for your generosity extended in so many ways, including through UMCOR. Your bountiful UMCOR Sunday offering on March 11 is much appreciated.

As always it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Debra Wallace-Padgett
Resident Bishop
