Message from Bishop Wallace-Padgett: An Invitation for all North Alabama Conference Elders, Deacons, Licensed Local Pastors and Associate Members

Dear Friends,

Ten years ago Bishop Robert Schnase released Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, a book that has had a significant impact upon the United Methodist Church. Congregations across the nation have grown healthier as a result of leaning into the five principles Bishop Schnase identified, including: 1) radical hospitality 2) passionate worship 3) intentional faith development, 4) risk-taking mission service and 5) extravagant generosity.

A decade later, at the 2017 Gathering of the Orders and Fellowship of Local Pastors and Associate Members, Bishop Schnase will reflect upon updates and applications of his original principles in light of a dramatically changing culture and church. His insights will advance our efforts in the North Alabama Conference to “empower life-giving congregations to transform the world.”

This year’s Gathering will once again be at Sumatanga Camp and Conference Center in Gallant, Alabama. Scheduled for October 22-24, the Gathering is for all North Alabama elders, deacons, associate members and local pastors. We have been growing in participation over the past several years with 275 persons participating in 2016. This year we are anticipating that 300 of us will come together to worship, learn, fellowship, pray and network together.

Registration is now open. The Early Registration deadline is October 10. The final registration deadline is October 16. Click here to download a schedule and to register.

I look forward to seeing you at the Gathering. As always, it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Debra Wallace-Padgett
