Many times since the 2019 Annual Conference I have heard some version of the comment, “Annual Conference teachers and preachers Bishop Bob Farr and Dr. Candace Lewis were great. I wish we could have heard more from them!”
Good news! Bishop Farr and Dr. Lewis will both be featured at the North Alabama Conference 2019 Gathering of the Orders and Fellowship of Local Pastors and Associate Members on October 27-28 at Sumatanga Camp and Conference Center. In the course of 28 hours, they will each preach a sermon, teach a plenary session and lead an interactive workshop. Dr. Lewis’ focus will be on new places with new faces, and Bishop Farr’s emphasis will be on renewal in existing congregations.
Across the years I have also heard some clergy say that they wish the Gathering was shorter in length and others indicate that they would enjoy it being longer. Again, good news for those with either perspective! For those desiring a more compact experience, the content will begin with worship on Sunday afternoon and conclude with dinner on Monday evening, thus reducing the length by about 16 hours in comparison to recent Gatherings. For those wishing to have additional time to spend in the beauty of Sumatanga Camp and Conference Center, it is possible to extend your stay upon booking. (Click to see the 2019 Gathering schedule.)
The cabinet and I have been pleased with attendance at the Gathering in recent years. We request that all clergy make this year’s Gathering a priority as we continue our focus on new faith communities as well as renewal in existing congregations. The fellowship will be great, the presenters excellent and the location at a place that is near and dear to many North Alabama United Methodist clergy and laity.
I look forward to seeing you at the 2019 North Alabama Conference Gathering of the Orders and Fellowship of Local Pastors and Associate Members. As always, it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.
