Message from Bishop Wallace-Padgett: Commission on a Way Forward

Dear Friends,

The Council of Bishops’ “Offering of a Way Forward” approved at General Conference 2016 calls for a "pause for prayer" as we seek God's will for the future. This includes the formation of a Commission to make recommendations to a possible called General Conference.

Last week the Executive Committee of the Council of Bishops made decisions about mission, vision, scope and a timeline for the Commission on a Way Forward. See for details.

I invite you to take two important actions during this “pause for prayer” period.

1) If you have someone you would like to nominate for the Commission, please be in touch with your District Superintendent no later than August 8.  Self-nominations are acceptable.  Note that a total of 20-25 persons from our global church will be selected to serve on the Commission.

2) Please join the Council of Bishops and many others in praying daily for the selection and work of the Commission as our church discerns a way forward.  100 United Methodists in North Alabama praying 15 minutes daily for the work of the Commission equals 1500 minutes or 25 hours a day of prayer for our church.  This, coupled with the prayers of many others around the connection, will be a great foundation for the Commission’s work. #prayourwayforward

Thanks for your participation in our church’s “pause for prayer” as we seek a way forward as a denomination. Also, thank you for the many ways in which you are making a difference for Christ in North Alabama and beyond.

As always, it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Debra Wallace-Padgett
Resident Bishop
North Alabama Conference
