Message from NAC3 Team: Encouragement and Visioning

December 16, 2022

Dear North Alabama United Methodists,

The December 10 Special Session was an emotional day for our Annual Conference. Sharing Holy Communion together was a powerful way to wish each other peace as some of our North Alabama congregations and clergy disaffiliated to begin new paths of ministry.

We want to take this opportunity to share the video of the second hour of the Special Session — a time of encouragement and visioning — with the many United Methodists who are continuing our journey together. We invite you to share it with the people in your congregation / United Methodist community.

During this inspiring hour, Executive Director of New and Renewing Churches Rev. Suzanne Katschke shared about new ministries already making a difference in North Alabama communities. She also reminded us that in a post-pandemic world we are all church planters and that it will take us all to meet the many needs of the hurting world around us. NAC3 Team co-chair Rev. Brian Erickson then helped us vision together reminding us of our disciple-making heritage as United Methodists. He encouraged us to rethink our connection as a Conference and to love each other better. He also challenged us to ask ourselves “What difference God wants us to make in each of our communities.” The Special Session ended with Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett commissioning our newly deployed District Developers who are working with congregations and groups of individuals to discover needs and provide resources to reach new people in new ways. Our team encourages you to keep the District Developers and all 440 continuing North Alabama congregations in your prayers.

In this season of Advent, we prepare for and anticipate the coming of Christ. Jesus Christ is the Hope of the World. We invite you to claim that hope as we prepare to enter the year 2023 in ministry together.
