North Alabama Conference Historical Society's fall meeting to celebrate Methodist missions

September 05, 2019

The North Alabama Conference Historical Society's Fall meeting will be at historic Athens First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 12, 2019. The church is located at 208 West Hobbs Street in Athens, Alabama. The meeting will be in the youth center. This church celebrated 200 years of continuous ministry in Limestone County last year.

The theme of this Fall meeting of the Historical Society is the mission of the church. Presentations will highlight three great areas of this mission —foreign, national, and local. Each of the day's three presentations will emphasize one these three important facets of the mission of the church,

George and Betty Cobb will present a paper relating to the national mission program of the United Methodist Church, specifically telling about their work in the Red Bird Missionary Conference a few years ago.

Another paper will be given by Richard Stryker concerning the impact of a foreign missionary on his life when he was a young person in Africa. This thrilling story will make us proud of missionaries sent from our conference who served as missionaries around the globe.

Finally, Richard Martin will give a brief history of the years in mission of Athens First UMC. Richard is the local church historian.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m., with the program starting at 9:45.

There is no charge to attend the program, but following the meeting, lunch will be served at a cost of $10 per participant. This will cover the cost of refreshments and the meal.

It is important that you make reservations for lunch by filling in the registration form and mailing it by Saturday, October 5 to enable the church to know the number of participants for which they need to prepare.
