North Alabama youth join others for Youth Harambee 2023

August 16, 2023

On June 21-25, youth and adult chaperones from North Alabama joined others from throughout the Southeastern Jurisdiction for Youth Harambee 2023.  They gathered on the campus of Claflin University, a United Methodist-related historically black college in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

The 2023 Theme was #Rise up with the theme verse from Proverbs 24:16: “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.”

Kathy J. Stallworth of the North Alabama Planning Team reflected, “We had a wonderful time in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The worship, workshops, fellowship, talents awards, activities, games, Museum visit and the Conference Minister Rev. Tavis Tinsley related and engaged the youth. One highlight is seeing the youth and participants surrendering and coming to the altar for prayer.”

HARAMBEE is a Youth Conference for rising 7th graders through recent high school graduates (ages 12-18), planned by the HARAMBEE Planning Team of youth, young adults and dedicated youth workers of the Southeastern Jurisdiction Black Methodists for Church Renewal, Inc. The conference is held annually to help youth develop their spiritual, leadership and interpersonal skills. The youth develop relationships, connect with each other, and learn how to bridge the gap from generation to generation.
