Rev. Stephanie Arnold, Associate Pastor of Birmingham First UMC, has been elected to serve as a director for the General Board of Church and Society for the 2017-2020 quadrennium.
As a member of the board of directors, Rev. Arnold will be helping to shepherd the work of the social justice and public policy agency of the United Methodist Church over the next four years. An organizational meeting for the incoming board of directors was held in September of 2016.
The General Board of Church and Society is one of four international program agencies of The United Methodist Church. With a mandate to implement the Social Principles and other policy statements of the General Conference, Church and Society works to provide forthright moral witness and action on issues of human well-being, justice, peace and the integrity of creation.
It is the intention and hope of Church and Society that Rev. Arnold will be a liaison with United Methodists in North Alabama who are interested in the work of justice and peace, and a resource for those wishing to get involved in the agency’s work around the world.
“We are thrilled to have Rev. Arnold on the Board for this coming quadrennium,” said Rev. Dr. Susan Henry-Crowe, General Secretary for Church and Society. “We anticipate a strong connection with the North Alabama Annual Conference and the Southeastern Jurisdiction as we work to advance justice and peace in our home communities and across the connection.”
