Office of Connectional Ministries hosting a book and curriculum giveaway featuring more than 1,000 items

10/25/2019

Thanks to a very generous donation, the North Alabama Conference Office of Connectional Ministries will soon host a book and curriculum giveaway featuring more than 1,000 items.

"Our office recently received more than 1,200 items thanks to an incredible donor who wanted these gifts to be used by our churches and their members," noted Director of Connectional Ministries Linda Holland. "When the conference priority of Church Health was moved to Connectional Ministries, we wondered how best to go about the work. What better way to get to know what our churches and members need than through a resource giveaway?"

Here's how the giveaway will work.

  • A listing of all the items available to request is available now at www.umcna.org/resourcegiveaway and will be promoted on both the conference website and through an email blast to our churches and pastors.

  • Then on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at 1 p.m. an order form will "go live" and individuals will be able to select items online on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Individuals are limited to a single order of up to three items.

  • Items must be requested online in advance and be picked up from the Connectional Ministries Office, located in the United Methodist Center on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

  • Items should be picked-up within 14 days of the request date.

"All we ask of those picking up materials is to spend a few minutes letting us know how their church is doing, and how we can resource them as they make disciples," said Holland.

A small portion of the resources will be made available in a resource library which will be housed in the Connectional Ministries office.

"Both clergy and laity will be encouraged to come to the office, enjoy the peace and quiet and utilize some wonderful reference materials such as commentaries, Bibles and study guides," explained Holland. "These reference items will also be listed online, but will not be part of the giveaway."

"Including Church Health with the work of Connectional Ministries has been a smooth transition as much of the work we do is already resourcing churches in matters of children, youth, young adults, Safe Sanctuaries and other areas," added Holland.
