On March 21, 2021, the North Alabama Conference hosted a virtual Conference-wide Safe Sanctuaries training. This training, which was attended by nearly 800 participants, fulfilled the Safe Sanctuaries training requirements for many churches in the Conference, particularly smaller congregations without the need for complex policies and procedures.
"We are thrilled by the incredible number of participants in the virtual training," says Rev. John Fleischauer, Associate Director of Connectional Ministries and Conference Safe Sanctuaries Coordinator. He adds, "Having this many people trained goes a long way toward fulfilling our responsibility as Christians and as Methodists to create a safe and welcoming environment for the most vulnerable among us."
The Office of Connectional Ministries is pleased to announce that, following the success of the live training, it is now available as an online course using the Moodle platform. The online course can be completed at one's own pace and includes the same content as the live training. To access the course, click here.
Rev. Fleischauer adds, "We are excited to be able to offer Safe Sanctuaries training in an increasing number of formats to make this important material as accessible as possible," says Rev. Fleischauer.
