Local church leaders and members are invited to attend the North Alabama Conference Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century (SBC-21) Annual Event on January 22-23, 2016, at Camp Sumatanga, 3616 Sumatanga Road, Gallant, Alabama 35972.
This year's focus will be "Rebuild, Revive, Reach Out: The Church in the Community." We are excited to host guest speaker, Dr. Emanuel Cleaver III, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, and author of Pastor on Track: Reclaiming our True Role. Dr. Cleaver is known for his transformational and creative approach to ministry in a quickly-changing world.
The weekend will open on Friday, January 22 with a dinner and presentation with Dr. Cleaver, while our children and youth are invited to attend and participate in a talent showcase. On Saturday, January 23, we will begin the morning with Dr. Cleaver and each participant will have the opportunity to choose between four exciting workshop tracks led by several leaders in our annual conference:
- Mission, Outreach, and Evangelism: Trudye Johnson (Goodsell-Lanett), Rev. Troy Walker (New Beginnings)
- Stewardship: Dr. Tiwirai Kufarimai (Glen Addie), Terrence Toney (St. Paul-Triana)
- Children and Youth: Sheila Johnson (Pleasant Grove-Colony), Dr. Adlene Kufarimai (Glen Addie)
- Worship: Rev. Dedric Cowser (Sweet Home)
Children and youth will have special times for fellowship and learning as they explore Camp Sumatanga.
