Scholarship opportunities for United Methodist Students at Birmingham-Southern College


For the fall 2016, Birmingham-Southern College awarded 101 scholarships from the United Methodist Scholarship Fund. Applications are now available for the 2017-18 academic year.  Information about United Methodist Scholarships is available on the BSC website at
BSC offers the following United Methodist Scholarships:

  • United Methodist Church Scholarship is awarded to United Methodist students who have been active in, and recommended by, their local United Methodist Church. Awards of $2500 are limited in number.
  • United Methodist Church and College Partnership Scholarship recognizes students who have served church and community. Local United Methodist congregations may nominate students for this honor by pledging $500, $1000, or $1500 per year for up to four years.
  • Christian Vocation Scholarships recognize students called to full-time vocation in Christian Education, Student Ministries, and other areas of ministry. Students must present satisfactory evidence of intent to work toward ordination or certification. Recipients receive support through the Programs for Ministry and rotate through internships in the local church.
  • Ministerial Student Tuition Assistance recognizes students preparing for ministry. Students must present satisfactory evidence of intent to enter seminary and full-time ministry. Awards are $5000 and are for one year, but renewable with intent and continued progress toward seminary.  Interviews are required to receive and renew this scholarship. 
  • Ministerial Family Tuition Assistance recognizes and honors children of United Methodist clergy. Assistance is $5000, awarded annually with confirmation of full-time status and appointment in the United Methodist Church.
Funding for the United Methodist Scholarships come from gifts of the North Alabama Conference.
The priority deadline for Christian Vocation Scholarships is Feb. 24, 2017, with an interview day of March 4.  The award process for all other scholarships begins on February 1. United Methodist Scholarships are awarded for one year and are renewable each spring.
Local congregations are urged to encourage youth in whom they see gifts for ministry to apply for Christian vocation scholarships.
