Silent Retreats set to resume

June 03, 2022

The biannual Silent Retreat held at Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman, one of the many events put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic, is set to resume later this year. Rev. Susie Knedlik and Deanna Shotts will lead two weekends this fall:

Sponsored by the North Alabama Conference Adult Discipleship Team, Silent Retreats have been held at the Benedictine Sisters Conference Center as a means of spiritual formation since 1988. Although the majority of the retreat is spent in contemplative silence, community worship times are built into the schedule. The peaceful environment and beautiful grounds provide an atmosphere that also allows participants to slow down and spend time alone with God.

The theme of the 2022 retreats is "Thirst for God." As in the past, participants are welcome to join the monastic community for Lauds and Vespers as they live out the Benedictine creed to welcome the stranger as Christ. The sisters have requested that Silent Retreat participants who wish to attend these services observe the masking and distancing mandates of the monastery.

A retreat guide is available upon request.
