On Thursday, December 1, 2016, the Southwest District of the United Methodist Church and Tuscaloosa First UMC are sponsoring a training event for pastors. The event, “Three L’s of the Bible: the Land, the Language and the Literature” will feature Dr. Charles Page who served as Academic Dean of the Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies and headed up the Jerusalem Institute for Biblical Exploration.
Dr. Page has lectured all over the world, and teaches Bible conferences. He has authored two major books, The Land and the Bible, and Jesus and the Land. During the event he will be teaching from the perspective of a local church preacher. Participants can expect insights directly related to the preaching task.
The event will begin at noon with a soup and sandwich lunch. The afternoon will feature three sessions and a time of Q & A.
To register for this event, email your name and church affiliation to: email@example.com. The first 50 to register will receive a complimentary copy of Dr. Page’s book, Behold the Man: Portraits of Jesus.
Tuscaloosa First UMC is compiling a year-long engaging Bible story curriculum for 2017. It is called, “53 Bible Stories for 53 Weeks.” Earlier this year, a lay committee identified 53 Bible stories they wanted every church member to know and embody. These stories will be the foundation for the congregation’s lessons in Sunday school, for sermons, for written bulletin inserts and Wednesday night Bible study throughout the year.
On Thursday evening, December 1, 2016, Dr. Page will be speaking on the “53 Stories in Their Biblical Context.” He will assist pastors and Sunday school teachers in examining these stories in the fuller context of scripture. This bonus session will begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. and will end at 8 p.m.
Tuscaloosa First UMC is offering to share with participants all of the resources they develop for this year-long study. If you are interested in this bonus lesson, please register with firstname.lastname@example.org.
