United Counseling announces new Executive Director
United Counseling and its ministry partners have much to celebrate and give thanks for this year!
After 11 years of blessing United Counseling with her incredible service as our Executive Director, Sheri Ferguson will begin a new chapter in her life as she retires from her role this June. While we will very much miss Sheri, we are thankful for the opportunity we have had to be in ministry with her through United Counseling. The ministry of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church has been strengthened by her leadership, and she has helped grow United Counseling into one of the strongest clergy support systems in United Methodism. We pray the best for Sheri as she continues her journey of faith and ministry and trust that God will continue to use her gifts in meaningful ways.
We will have an opportunity to express our thanks to Sheri during Annual Conference on Sunday evening. We hope you can join us in celebrating Sheri’s years of service with United Counseling.
Please also join us in celebrating and welcoming our incoming Executive Director, Rev. Monica Harbarger! Our Board of Directors initiated a search in January, and after consideration of a number of candidates, chose to move Monica from a staff counselor role into the role of Executive Director. This transition in leadership will take place June 1, 2016.
Monica received her Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of Alabama in 2000 and worked in the mental health field prior to entering ministry. She has served in the local church for 11 years and was ordained a Deacon in 2011. Monica has served as a contract counselor with United Counseling for a number of years in addition to her ministry at Pleasant Hill UMC in McCalla. She and her family will continue to live, worship and play in the McCalla community as she serves United Counseling and the North Alabama Conference. The Board is confident that our clients and ministry partners will be just as pleased and excited as we are to welcome Monica as our new Executive Director of United Counseling!
