Communication TIPS: Resources for Visual Communication

November 01, 2021

The images and graphics you use in your church communications (website, email, social media and print publications) help to tell the story of your congregation.  Most churches do not have the resources to create every image in-house. Therefore, we all need a little help from our friend the internet! However, finding quality images that your congregation can use legally is not as simple as just doing a Google image search.  Below are some graphic resources you may want to check out to find quality images you can use in your church communications.

Things to remember when using stock images.

  • Make sure you have permission to use the image
    • Search for public domain images or royalty free images or abide by the licensing agreement from a stock photo source. Don't use images without proper permission.
  • Make sure the image is the size and resolution you need.
    •  If you try to make an image larger than the original or try to print an image designed for the internet it will appear blurry or pixelated.  Remember, you can make an image smaller than the original and it will look good. However, if you enlarge an image too much, it will lose quality and thus hurt the quality of your publication.
  • Pay attention to the details in the image to make sure it helps tell the story you are trying to tell to the audience you are trying to reach.
