Virtual VBS: Suggested Schedule

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Buzz Word God Connects God Renews God Provides God Transforms God Sends
Bug Images
Bug Emphasis Ants: To survive flooding, fire ants can link their bodies together, forming a raft that can survive for weeks until they find dry land. Another type of ant creates bridges with their bodies to be able to access food sources. Ants join together to connect over obstacles! Snail: The snail moves slowly and is used to waiting in its shell until conditions are right to continue the journey. Ladybugs: In some cultures, ladybugs have been thought to be good luck. However, we don't have to count on luck. Instead, we know God will provide for our needs. Luna Moth: The Luna Moth lives only for one week with the purpose of creating a new generation of moths. Its purpose is so singular, the moth doesn't even have a mouth or digestive system because there's no time to waste eating! They have a purpose for this particular time. Lightning Bug/Firefly: Fireflies can flash in sync. They use their flashes to communicate and to draw others to them.
Theme Connectedness (addressing: isolation) Trust in God's promises (addressing: uncertainty) There is enough (addressing: resource instability) We can make a difference (addressing: helplessness, identity) We can be faithful in these new surroundings/situations (addressing: all of our new schedules and situations are unfamiliar, the things that used to define us are not there)

Each day will have a corresponding bug image and buzz word that connects with each of the activities.

The following activities will be included in each daily email, and we encourage the following order, as it moves from active elements to more passive elements and back to active. We have provided the following timeframes for each activity (but it is not a limitation at all) as simply a guideline. If anything, we encourage you to enjoy every activity and the time you share together:

  • Introduction to the day (5-10 minutes)
  • Storytelling (20-25 minutes)
  • Crafts (20-25 minutes)
  • Bug Bites/Snacks (20-25 minutes)
  • Mission (20-25 minutes)
  • Science (20-25 minutes)
  • Music (20-25 minutes)
  • Wrap-up (10-15 minutes)

The team approximately calculated each activity to follow the same timeframe of a regular VBS. Instead of guided instruction throughout the entire time, each activity (with the exception of introduction, storytelling, and wrap-up) will have an instructional video to help introduce the activity and provide an example. Written/digital instructions will accompany all activities so that you can do them successfully in your home or backyard!
